The Journey

I wanted to just start with a little background of where Living Simply by Design started and what it has manifested into. First, Hi! I’m Brittany Cayless. I am the face behind Living Simply by Design. This idea started out as a way to simply help friends get their homes organized. Last August we downsized our home by over 1,000 sq. ft which put me to the challenge of how to keep things organized, decluttered, and make best use of the space. In doing this, I found that it was something I was really good at and I wanted to help others with it too. The plan was to go into people's homes and help them organize. Now, here’s the plot twist…. *Insert Covid-19*. It’s nearly laughable now, but weeks after putting myself out there and announcing my business to the world, Covid-19 hits and we are all put on quarantine orders. I sat there wondering what the heck I was doing trying to start a business during a pandemic, let alone where the whole business idea meant going into other people’s homes. As we all know, going basically anywhere wasn’t at all favorable during the quarantine. Fear set in, and I had moments of extreme doubt, and many times on the verge of quitting. But I am a fighter, and I just knew deep down that helping others in some way is engraved as part of my purpose here on earth. I wasn’t giving up that easy and no global pandemic was going to stop me.

As I continued to share on Instagram, I continued to get asked about our home in general, not just my organizing stuff, but our home decor, our DIY renovations, my outfits, my makeup, our daily life, etc. etc. Friends, I could have easily just thrown in the towel and blamed the virus for ruining my plans, but instead I chose to pivot and let you girls sort of guide me into what you wanted to see. I knew there was more here and I knew I was right where I was meant to be. I continued to ask myself this question- How can I provide tremendous value? I watched your engagement on my posts. I listened to your feedback. I took every single message and comment to heart, and what started out as a little organizing business quickly grew and manifested itself into a full resource Home & Lifestyle blog. So here we are today! Living Simply by Design is a Home & Lifestyle resource for YOU! We are doing this thing! Creating Pinterest worthy home looks together, one season at a time!

Where we’re headed

I am overwhelmed with gratitude, and just so thankful. A fire is lit under me like never before. I want this to be the resource you go to when you’re shopping for your home. I want this to be the resource you go to when you need home style inspiration. I want this to be the resource you go to when you’re decorating for the holidays. I want this to be the resource you go to when you need holiday gift ideas. I want this to be the resource you go to when you simply need a jolt of sunshine and inspiration in your day. I want this to be the resource you go to when you are shopping for new clothes & beauty items and need to find options that won’t break the bank. I want this to be the resource you go to when you need a new recipe idea. Above all, I want this website to be bookmarked on your browser because you see it as a helpful resource in your life. Again, be sure to subscribe to the email list to receive blog post alerts via email!

As hard as things have been for all of us in one way or another, I jokingly said to my husband the other day “how crazy it would be if it turns out the Coronavirus was the best thing that ever happened to my business”.  Had I stayed doing just the organizing thing locally, I would have never allowed myself the opportunity to meet so many of you. Being pushed completely out of my comfort zone and forced to grow in so many ways has taught me more than I could imagine. My core words for this time have been perseverance and courage. Things have not been easy by any means, but I will continue to persevere and show up for you and bring you value. I am so very excited for the future of Living Simply by Design. I look forward to helping you, growing together, decorating our homes together, laughing together, sharing my life with you, and so much more!

I love you all dearly, friends! Here’s to seeing where this year takes us!
