Fathers Day Gift Ideas

You guessed it! It’s time for the Father’s Day gift blog. Brittany recruited me to throw out some ideas based on what I like. Challenge accepted.

First things first, the stereotypical Father’s Day gifts are great, however, there are more options than dress socks and ties. For those of us who are required to wear those items on a daily basis, a more non-traditional gift may be the way to go. Also, there are some ridiculous items that I would love to list here in hopes that Brittany stumbled upon a mountain of gold and is just looking for the perfect time to shower me with expensive gifts, however in keeping with the integrity of the purpose of this blog, we will keep it reasonable.

If you follow my wife, you probably know that most of the home improvements are done in a true DIY fashion. As someone who appreciates craftsmanship and willingness to try new things, I am forever looking for tools scattered around our home and garage. A great solution to this problem is the Readywares Waxed Canvas organizer or the Bucket Boss. This is an easy, convenient way to carry and store a variety of tools for projects big and small. It fits perfectly over most 5-gallon buckets, and transforms an old paint bucket into a single, organized spot for tools. Both are great products. The Readyware version is made out of a more durable material and offers 60 pockets, while the Bucket Boss features 30 pockets at a fraction of the cost!

Living in Florida is great for numerous reasons. Not only do we get to enjoy the outdoors just about every day of the year, shorts are also considered acceptable dress attire for most occasions! Although I may wear slacks 8-5 Monday through Friday, shorts and t-shirts are my go-to! Like all great things, if you find something that is truly great, it is hard to stray away from it. For me, Nike Core Flex Shorts are my go to for hanging out around the house, going to events, or even just spending a weekend exploring Amelia Island. These shorts are extremely comfortable, and fit perfectly. They are based off of Nike’s Dri-FIT technology which is a must in the Florida climate. Most weekend days at our house start out with a morning run or bike ride. There are many days when that bike ride leads straight into the project du-jour. For those days, Nike Dri-Fit training shorts are in it, to win it. Comfortable, breathable, durable, and versatile. Both the Core Flex and Training shorts fit true to size. I have a pair of the training shorts that have survived over five years, and Brittany has yet to deem them visually unacceptable!

When it comes to shoes, there are several options depending on what I am doing. I had a pair of Danner boots that lasted me through numerous training schools in the military. Although a bit more expensive, they are well worth their money. Danner Bull Run boots come in a few different heights, and both a steel toe and non-steel toe version. These boots are American made, from durable leather. Given that most other Marines going through the same training would go through three or four pairs of boots before I sent my Danner’s off to be re-soled, I can personally attest to their durability!

For tennis shoes, Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 36 and New Balance Fresh Foam Sport V1 are both great options. The Nike offers great comfort for long runs, or walking around. For a man over 200 lbs, this shoe is sturdy and made of a breathable mesh material. The soles of these seem much more durable than previous Nike Flex and other shoes I have tried. The New Balance Fresh Foam Sport V1 is also comfortable with a minimalist feel, and offers a similar weaved material outer shell. This shoe feels much more like a sock and a bit less sturdy than the Nike. For me, Nike’s fit close to size with other shoes both in width and length. With New Balance, I have to buy the size smaller than what I would normally wear in most other brands. I usually always try to buy a ½ size smaller if available in New Balance.

Although I am doing my best to break the tie and socks norm of Father’s Day, the Yeti Rambler Mug is more traditional, with a hint of coolness. This mug works great and is just as easily used on the weekends as it is during the weekday commute to the office. The Yeti Mug comes in various colors and holds 14 ounces of fresh brewed greatness. Although I do not technically have my own, I have commandeered Brittany’s on occasion. It also receives the dad approval for keeping adult beverages ice cold during our weekend projects! Who says that you cannot have whiskey from a coffee mug on the weekends?!

A couple of things that I always have around when working around the house are a pocket knife and a blue-tooth speaker. Let’s face it, from prying open a can of paint, repairing a nail gun, or cutting free a Unicorn Scooter from its packaging for your three-year old daughter, a solid pocket knife is a must. Kershaw Shuffle II is a convenient multi-functional product at a hard to beat price! Did I mention it has a built in bottle opener?  For my other must have, a wireless speaker that stays charged for more than an hour, and is able to stand up to some dust and the occasional splash of water here or there, the Oontz Angle 3 is a great option. The speaker has a great wireless range when working around the house and often going from front yard to back without ever losing signal. For its size, it is loud, clear, and advertises a battery life of up to 14 hours. Considering my average weekend project may last six to eight hours, this speaker has me covered. It also uses a convenient USB charger like many other electronics. Losing a charger is no big deal with the micro usb port. For the price, it is an easy choice!

I added some additional traditional items below as well. Thankfully I have an awesome wife who keeps me going with all of the necessities! I hope that this helps in your search for the perfect Father’s Day gift/ gifts. Just in case Brittany did find a heap of money, the 2020 Ford Raptor is an amazing truck.
