I Painted the Hutch
Hi Friends! I’ve been wanting to paint our wine hutch for awhile now, I just haven’t gotten around to it. I had it painted a navy in our old home to add some depth to all of the lightness in there, so when we moved into this home, it was still that navy color. This home is a much smaller home than our last, so the navy felt too dark in this space. We still have a lot of light and bright in there, but I’ve also added wood tones as well. I definitely felt like the hutch needed a lighter look to “fit this space”.
Before & After
How I painted it...
To paint I used a matte finish latex paint. The color I chose is Cloudy Gray by Magnolia Home. It is the most beautiful super light gray color that I’ve found. It is the same color our bedroom and both bathrooms are painted as well.
-I took everything off the hutch and wiped it down in every crevice.
-I then taped over all of the hardware on it (you could opt to take it off if you’d rather).
-Then I gave it a really light sanding and wiped it down again. Make sure it is very dry before you start painting.
-To paint over the navy with cloudy gray, it took 3 full coats, and a 4th touch up coat. I used about a half a quart of paint for the project.
I will admit I am not the best at painting furniture. So I won’t pretend to be an expert, however, doing this worked for me and the hutch turned out beautifully! I am so happy with the new color and the lightness it adds to our living space!
